2022 Toyota RAV4 Recall

Toyota is recalling the 2022 RAV4 to address an issue with the front passenger seat that can prevent the airbag from deploying correctly. This would present a potentially significant risk for the passenger during an accident. The recall is for about 3,500 vehicles with an eight-way power seat with height adjustment. These seats have a stop on the frame that interferes with the occupant sensing system. This can trick the onboard safety systems into believing the seat is unoccupied which would prevent the airbag from deploying in the event of an accident.

EV Tax Credit Proposal

The Senate proposed to extend the current $7,500 tax credit for consumers buying new electric vehicles but would add requirements for automakers. The automakers would be subject to annual increases in sourcing requirements for critical minerals and battery component to build the EVs.

By 2024, the proposal would call for 50 percent of the critical minerals used in EV batteries to be extracted or processed in the U.S. or a country where the U.S. has a free trade agreement in effect or from materials that were recycled in North America. Also, in 2024 and 2025, 60 percent of the battery components must be made or assembled in North America.

NHTSA Launches 5 Safety Probes Covering Roughly 1.9 Million Stellantis, Ford, GM Vehicles

The U.S. auto safety regulators have opened five separate safety probes for about 1.9 million vehicles manufactured by Ford, GM, and Stellantis. The largest covers an estimated 1.3 million Jeep Cherokees from 2014 to 2020. Water may leak into these vehicles and cause the electronic parking brake to activate and stop the vehicle while in motion. Stellantis recalled certain Journey, Compass and Patriots manufactured between May 9th and July 15, 2016, not all the vehicles recalled are apart of the NHTSA probe.

The NHTSA has formally launched an investigation into the 2021 Ford Bronco vehicles equipped with 2.7L EcoBoost engine, alleging a loss of motor power at high speeds with no restart. The NHTSA is also investing Cadillac XT5, XT6 and the GMC Acadia from 2020 to 2021 after learning of problems with the rearview camera. With a safety probe, the agency will review the scope and severity of the potential defect and other possible safety- related issues from there they will determine if a recall needs to be issued.
