Stellantis is recalling 1.4 million pickups worldwide because tailgates might not latch properly and could open while driving. The automaker said the recall covers various 2019 through 2022 model year Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks.
The recall includes more than 1.23 million vehicles in the U.S., 120,000 in Canada, 26,000 in Mexico and about 27,000 outside North America. Owner notification letters will be mailed in late January.

Toyota Production and Ordering Updates
Ordering for the Toyota Venza is officially closed and the MY23 ordering system has been shut off.
The Prius will receive future production cuts. This should only impact future orders, not currently ordered vehicles.
The last order month for both MY23 Camry Gas /HV & Tundra Gas /HV is March 2023. In order to reallocate any unused allocation, all customers will be required to have all orders in by the January 10, 2023 order cutoff. If orders are not in the system by this date it will be assumed the customer no longer needs the production and we will reallocate the units.

Microchip Shortage: December Is Not Looking Good
Automakers will cut 68,000 more vehicles out of their worldwide factory schedules this week because of the microchip shortage, according to the latest estimate from AutoForecast Solutions.
Automakers have been inching back to more normal supplies of chips all year, but they still have a long way to go. AutoForecast now warns that 200,000 more vehicles likely will be eliminated this month because of insufficient chip supplies. But its projection for the end-of-year total has been trimmed back by nearly 92,000 vehicles from the full-year forecast just one week ago.

Microchip Shortage: N.A. and Asia See More Cuts
AutoForecast Solutions estimates that North American auto plants will have to trim more than 10,000 additional vehicles out of their schedules this week, while plants in Asia outside of China will have to eliminate 32,000 planned vehicles.
2022 is still going to end with nearly 4.5 million cars and trucks knocked out of factory schedules because of the chip shortage, according to a new projection from AutoForecast Solutions. That is far below the 10.5 million vehicles that had to be cut from automakers’ plans last year. But schedules continue to be pared back because of the shortage. According to AutoForecast Solutions, the auto plants of Europe face an additional 168,000 cuts between now and the end of the year. Projections for loss by region are as follows:
North America YTD – 1,485,700 (2022 Projected – 1,546,700)

Microchip Shortage: Outlook Improves
In its latest estimate, AutoForecast Solutions said 3.9 million vehicles have been cut by automakers worldwide this year, a slight improvement from the 3.93 million units it reported a week earlier. The numbers are a welcome reprieve for the industry. Looking ahead, microchip availability could improve next year as demand in other sectors eases, said Sam Fiorani, AFS vice president of global vehicle forecasting. “Moving some of the production capacity to automotive chips could ease the tight supply and might shorten the production bottlenecks, possibly by the middle or late in the new year,” Fiorani wrote in an email. Projections for loss by region are as follows:
North America YTD – 1,396,100 (2022 Projected – 1,461,200)
Europe YTD – 1,351,400 (2022 Projected – 1,520,000)
Rest of Asia YTD – 749,400 (2022 Projected – 833,500)
South America YTD – 190,100 (2022 Projected – 190,700)
